Maureen's Story
I grew up on a farm in SW Minnesota, the 6th of nine siblings. My mother died from cancer when I was 13. Within 6 months of Mom’s death, I had the responsibility of maintaining the home – cooking, cleaning, and caring for my three younger siblings. During that time, I also experienced sexual abuse, which was a big contributor to numbing myself and looking for love in all the wrong places.
Like me, my father was bereft. He started drinking heavily and got involved with a married woman. When I started to drive, I would go see if he was with her and would be coming home drunk; for some reason, I needed to know. I also started going out with my girl friends and getting drunk, and I often blacked out.
My dad died from a heart attack just after my 17th birthday. Now orphans, my siblings and I got split up to go live with different relatives. In April of my senior year of high school, my custodial aunt asked where I was going to College. I had received no guidance and had no idea of where to go so she made a suggestion. I applied and was accepted to a private college for women. After a year and a half, I decided to transfer to Virginia Tech. The last day of finals in December of my sophomore year, I was in a serious car accident, and broke my hip. Spending the holiday season in the hospital did not make for a joyful Christmas. Surgery and six weeks of traction delayed my transfer for one quarter. I lost a semester of college but I finally graduated. Subsequently, I earned a Master’s degree in music performance from Rice University. I played professionally with the Dallas Chamber Orchestra, Richmond Symphony, freelancing, and was part of the baroque trio ‘Windsong’.
Now in my mid-twenties, I married Peter, the Principal Violist of the Richmond Symphony. Around this time, I realized I was drinking too much. Planning to start a family, I slowed the drinking and then stopped after welcoming two children into the family.
The kids were just turning one and three when Peter was diagnosed with stage four cancer. In addition to being a mother, I again became a care giver, now to Peter during his difficult cancer treatments.
At the age of 48 I became a widow. I meandered about trying to figure out my life’s calling, how to make a living - working through some part-time jobs, and as an independent photographer. I was not happy and felt very alone. I feared impoverishment and that I would be a burden to my children and die young.
In December 2016, I experienced a minor stroke shortly after being told about the book ‘A Course in Miracles (ACIM). I took the stroke experience as an opportunity to make some changes. I began to meditate and almost immediately I was aware that my vocation was to use my hands for healing. I began to investigate modalities for this work. I received my answer quickly - I was to start with Reiki - energy medicine. I immersed myself in learning and had my first attunement within a few months.
I made the decision to continue changing my life after hearing Gregg Braden and Dr. Joe Dispenza speak, affirming what I knew in her inner most being that ‘Anything is Possible’.
I increased my meditation time and in June 2016, I saw myself at the top of Machu Picchu. Realizing I had been living in a ‘victim mode’, I chose to work with an intuitive life coach and quickly worked through the emotions I had stuffed through my childhood and beyond. My coach believed I would become a Life Coach. I laughed. However, I continued to study Energy work and to become a Reiki Master while learning other energy modalities as well.
In the Fall of 2016, the opportunity to go to Peru and Machu Picchu presented itself. While in Peru, I was introduced to “Coaching for Transformation” and felt the call to include this modality in my practice. I invested in The Transformational Life Coach Program. I knew from research and my own recovery from personal trauma (‘me too’) that combining coaching with energy medicine would be a powerful way to lead people to their own transformations.
In my business, I now offer coaching packages coupled with energy work for those individuals who are interested in making powerful changes in their lives, whether personal, professional, or relational. I combine coaching, energy medicine, & meditation to guide clients to the life they are called to and desire to live.
I am available for public speaking, working with sales team mindsets to provide increased sales success. I also see clients for individual Reiki/energy sessions and Soul Retrievals. Sessions are available in-person and remotely.
